This weekend starts off with Bonerama (6/20, $10) - a blast of New Orleans horns that lets it rip on vintage funk, classic rock and free improvisation. Did we mention there's something like four trombones up there? Rolling Stone called them "the ultimate in brass balls" (2005) and praised their "…crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls" (2007). And what other brass band could snag an honor for "Best Rock Band" (Big Easy Awards 2007)?
The buzz on Bonerama has grown with hometown acclaim, lots of roadwork and a pair of live albums. The Boston Herald called them a "bonehead's dream"; the Vail (CO) Daily noted that "the sound is fat and wet; sometimes downright lusty." Offbeat put it, "That nerdy kid in the band room with the trombone just might have the last laugh after all."
Still not convinced? Here's Bonerama playing on Letterman with OK Go's Damian Kulash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?
And here's their website (we dig the NOLA Jazz & Heritage Festival slide show on the home page): www.bonerama.net
On Saturday we have DJ Oli Scragga Dread: "Reggae Past, Present, and Future." It's $5 unless you have a pass, in which case it's free free free.
Sunday is obviously the Incredible Casuals at 4pm for $10. You knew that.
This Tuesday and every Tuesday all summer long is Reggae Night with DJ Bud E. Green. It's five bucks or free with that pass.
Don't have a pass? You can pick one up at the club or swing by the Comber store on Route 6 in Wellfleet. They're $25 and are perfect for every astrological sign.
And finally, we're linking ink! We're posting links to reviews and what-not on our blog: www.wellfleetbeachcomber.
"Outdoor concerts are popping up left and right, but few shows can lay claim to partying right on the beach like the Wellfleet Beachcomber." -Boston Herald 5/08
"Literally in the sand, perched above Cahoon Hollow Beach in the Cape Cod National Seashore, (the Beachcomber) showcases Boston's best original rock bands (as well as occasional national headliners like Dick Dale or Cracker) beneath the fishnet-hung beams. The 365-capacity room includes access to an outdoor deck with a raw bar and a view of the Atlantic." -Improper Bostonian 6/08
It's true, it's true, it's all true. See you 'round the raw bar!
Aloha
